Frequently Asked Questions

What Is CensusViewer?

CensusViewer is an online application that gives you access to the Census 2010 and 2000 “Summary File 1″ data from the U.S. Census Bureau as well as selected American Community Survey (ACS) data and extensive premium data including registered voters and frequently updated commercial data sources. It is an excellent online tool for demographic analysis of the U.S. population. With CensusViewer you can navigate the census data from within the familiar Bing Maps interface. CensusViewer shows you the census data as colored images overlaid onto maps or satellite images from Bing Maps. With CensusViewer it is as if you can ‘see’ the Census data.

Do I need a subscription?

There are three CensusViewer versions: FreeBasic and Premium.

CensusViewer Basic and CensusViewer Premium require a paid subscription for access and both provide additional features and data sources. Subscriptions are recurring and available for 1-month, 3-month, 6-month and 12-month terms. You may cancel or upgrade your subscription at any time.

Click here to begin using CensusViewer Free. No registration or subscription is needed to access CensusViewer’s free version. It’s a great way to get a feel for the power, speed and flexibility of the underlying technology.  And if you like what you see, there’s a simple subscription process to unlock the additional features and premium data available in the Basic and Premium versions.

Do you provide technical support?

We provide technical support via our online tutorials, user manual and  email at support@censusviewer.com.  Links to the tutorials and manuals are found on the CensusViewer maps in the top of the sidebar.

Phone Support is available for $65 per hour, purchased in five-hour increments. Please email us at sales@censusviewer.com if you want to sign up for a phone support contract.

How do I change or cancel a subscription?

You can change your subscription or cancel your account at any time. Follow these steps:

Step 1:  At the login screen enter your email address and password, then click on the “Get app list” button.

Step 2:  Click on the “Change Account Info” link.

Step 3:  Click on the “Click here to view / change billing info” link.

Step 4:  Update your billing info or click on “Cancel Subscription” button to cancel your subscription.

How do single and multiple-user licenses work?

Single User License

You can only log in to CensusViewer from one browser at a time and you should not share your login information with other people. If your login information is used from a second computer while you are logged in from a first computer then your first session is terminated. So if you had CensusViewer open in your office and you forget to log out before you go home you can still log in but your office computer will log out automatically.

Multi User License

Please contact Moonshadow Mobile if you need more than five licenses for your organization at sales@censusviewer.com

Are there restrictions on my use of the Census Data?

The Census data is publicly available and provided by the U.S. Census Bureau. You can use the census data in any way allowed by the U.S. Census Bureau. Moonshadow Mobile’s CensusViewer has processed the census data so that details about individual census blocks can be downloaded easily. Subscribers are allowed to use the downloaded data from CensusViewer.com in any way that is allowed by the U.S. Census Bureau.  As a courtesy we ask that you cite CensusViewer.com as the source of the data in the following way: “US Census Data provided by CensusViewer.com”

Are there restrictions on my use of the Premium Data?

Certain additional “premium” data, provided by L2, is available as part of the CensusViewer Premium subscriptions.  These registered voter data and commercial data sources are not individually accessible and are aggregated data at the census block level for research purposes only. No personally identifiable data is provided.

Are there restrictions on my use of the Maps and Images?

CensusViewer creates images from the census data as well as other data sources and projects these over maps and satellite images from Bing Maps. Microsoft and its suppliers own the proprietary rights to the maps and satellite images and you must adhere to Microsoft’s terms and policies if you want to use the images or maps. Moonshadow does not grant you any rights to use the images and maps other than as part of the CensusViewer online website. You can find Microsoft’s policies in regards to the maps and satellite images on the following page: http://explore.live.com/microsoft-service-agreement?mkt=en-us.

Moonshadow Mobile allows CenusViewer subscribers to use the CenusViewer data visualization layer provided that you cite CensusViewer.com as the source of the data in the following way:

“Data visualization provided by CensusViewer.com.”
